What is the NON GMO Label?

GMO foods, in short, are foods obtained from seeds and plants whose genetic codes have been modified in some way. While traditional breeding, which has been going on for centuries, involves mixing whole genes from two different sources, producing GMOs is much more targeted.

What is the NON GMO Label?

Instead of crossing two plants in the field, they insert one or two genes into individual cells in a lab. However, as mentioned earlier, GM technology can also be used on microorganisms.

Most of the foodstuffs we have access to today are products made from GMO seeds. However, none of them are GMO products, etc. no statement is visible. Consumers have the right to know what kind of product they consume.

When GMOs were introduced in the '90s, a food product didn't need a label if it contained a genetically modified ingredient. Regulators of some governments have determined that there is no appreciable difference in nutrition and food safety from other foods we eat that would require special labeling.

In the following years, increasingly conscious consumer masses advocated knowing more about the ingredients of their food. In contrast, its priority has gradually expanded since 2016, with a bill signed by President Obama taking the lead. This legislation establishes a standard for the labeling of foods made with genetically modified organisms.

The bill requires food manufacturers to use one of three types of labels to notify consumers when their products contain GMO ingredients: a description on the package, a redirect to a website or phone number, or a QR code.
