NON GMO Product Features and Labeling Criteria

Specifications for Obtaining Inputs and Components

Major and Minor Inputs and Ingredients must be sourced from non-GMO sources. Micro Inputs and Ingredients must be sourced from non-GMO sources.

For Products validated under the Program, Participants may not knowingly sew, purchase or use Inputs or Components that do not comply with the Standard.

Written specifications for all products, materials, and inputs should include requirements for standard compliance and should be updated if participating suppliers change the inputs or ingredients.

Unverified Inputs and Materials should be avoided when spot purchasing is required; Participants should look for Verified Status Entries and Content to the appropriate scope. If a spot purchase is made for Unverified Input or Content, the Participant must:

  • Justify to Technical Assistance why a Verified Status Entry or Content is not used
  • Provide evidence that Testable High-Risk Inputs or Components purchased as spot have been tested against the requirements of the Standard and test results are at or below the relevant Threshold of Action
  • Demonstrate that all Non-Testable High-Risk Inputs or Components purchased on the spot comply with all applicable requirements
  • Demonstrate that all Verified Status Inputs or Components or Low Risk Inputs or Components purchased on-site comply with all applicable requirements
  • Provide purchasing documents including oaths, sampling information and test results. This reporting must be done in a timely manner.

Restrictions on spot purchasing may be enforced at the organization's discretion. For example, repeated spot purchases from the same supplier may be grounds for canceling or restricting this allowance.
